The holidays are over, and we can finally take a breath and relax. With all of this extra free time and the sudden drop off of family obligations, it’s the perfect time for a date night. And just because the twinkling lights of Christmas have been put away doesn’t mean the romance of the cold is over.
In fact, it’s just begun. Winter only started a couple of weeks ago, and January is the star of the show. The mountains have been powdered with snow. While the lakes have frozen over and the dark skies make for the perfect starry nights. So pick your favorite date night and your best dancing partner and do something special this month!
Snow Day
Head to the nearest mountain mid-morning and hit the slopes. If skiing and snowboarding aren’t your preferred adventures, there’s still plenty to do in the snow. Sled down a hill with your partner. The two of you can even race. Throw a snowball in your date’s face and start an epic snowball fight. When it’s all over, and you’re both cold from your snow day run to the closest bar. Warm up those frozen fingers by wrapping them around a delicious hot toddy. Laugh together as you recall the childlike fun you had in the snow. It just might become your favorite thing to do on date night.
Ice Skating
Whether you live somewhere where lakes freeze over or have to hit an ice skating rink, it’s the perfect time of the year to do it. It’s even better if one of you doesn’t know how. There’s nothing like the intimacy of holding onto each other teaching the other how to move their body on the skates. Not to worry if they fall, it will be all the sweeter when you’re there to help them out. When you’re tired from skating sip cocoa at the rink or head home to sit in front of a fire. You can end this date night by massaging each other’s feet as you settle in for a sweet romantic evening.
Moonlight Snowshoeing
If there’s nothing like a moonlit stroll along the beach try one in the snow! Rent a pair of snowshoes for the two of you and set up a night hike. Out in the mountains, the twinkly stars will be bright to see. They won’t be the only beautiful sites though. From frozen waterfalls to cute little cabins nestled in the snow this date night will fill you both with awe. It’s also a great way to get active during a time of year it’s all too easy to stay inside and cozy up. So take the drive and embrace the intimacy of a long talk as you walk through a snow-covered mountain.
Cozy Indoor Picnic
While the cold is fun and there’s so much to do in the snow sometimes you just want a night in. That doesn’t mean relying on the classic Netflix and chill. Plenty can actually be done in the home. For a sweet indoor date night create a picnic in front of the fireplace. Don’t have one? Never fear, there are cute little indoor tabletop fire pits you can get. Lay out of a warm and fuzzy blanket in front of the fire and set out a basket full of appetizers. A plate full of cheeses, some artisan jams, and specialty crackers will do the trick. There’s nothing like s’mores for a fireside picnic!
