It’s that time of the year again. By that time of the year, I mean the very beginning. Where our gym membership is weighing on our conscious. Our poor eating habits are heavily outlined by the indulgences of the holidays. Basically, all of the things we want to improve about ourselves are highlighted in our mind by the start of the year. But that doesn’t mean we should be feeling down! It means it’s the time to make wellness goals we can actually achieve in 2019.

The most important part of making goals you can achieve is understanding where you’re already at. So instead of following a routine that’s one size for all use our outline to make improvements to what you’re already doing. Regardless of where you are on your wellness journey these are goals that will improve your health. These are wellness goals you can achieve in 2019!

Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet.

Maybe you love fruit perhaps you hate it. Either way, you could always eat more of it. Fruits and vegetables are our best sources of essential vitamins and minerals. They aren’t just good for your health their good for your skin. So to keep your body feeling good and your skin looking great, make yourself try a new fruit or vegetable once a month. Every week work in an additional fruit or vegetable to your current diet. Every meal add an extra serving of vegetables or fruits. What makes this a wellness goal you can achieve is the simple incremental increase used to improve your health.

Drink more water.

It’s incredible how much water does for our bodies. Dehydration doesn’t just cause headaches and dry skin, it actually tricks the body into thinking it’s hungry. So if you aren’t getting enough water, there’s a good chance you’re overeating. On the flip side, water helps improve your metabolism. So by staying hydrated, you’re improving your health, reducing how much you eat and increasing your metabolism. So try to drink between 12 and 16 cups of water a day. Of course, no one formula fits all, but that recommendation will generally keep your body feeling good. To help you reach this wellness goal attainable start by just adding one cup of water a day to your current routine.

Customize That Fad Diet You’re Considering to Your Needs

There are so many popular diets out there. I’d say right now, but this is a longtime trend. They all seem to work, at least for a while. Or at least for some. Then, we either quit the diet because it was unattainable or because we’ve reached our goal weight. Dismay settles in as the weight settles back onto our bodies. So, instead of following that fad diet that had your friend lose 50 pounds in a few months try listening to your body. Maybe keto works great on your fat but wreaks havoc on your energy levels. In that case, you probably need more carbs in your diet.

On the other hand, you might already find that you go long periods without eating without issue and want to try the fasting diet. That’s great because now you’re educating yourself on how to make your current habits work even better for you. Whatever you do it’s important to pay attention and even record the impacts of your diet on your body and your mind. You’ll need both to be happy with you if you want to achieve your wellness goal.

Become Mindful

What’s great about this is the overarching umbrella of subjects that it covers. Be mindful of the ingredients in your meals. Be aware of the processes your food went through before getting to you. But also be mindful of how your body feels. Listen to it when it asks to be stretched when it asked to be moved or worked out.

Most importantly be mindful with yourself. Take the time to sit with yourself and reflect inward, whether that be meditation, journaling or yoga. Make sure you’re taking the time to sit with you. It’s through this sort of inward listening that you’ll find your wellness goals become achievable.
