Love letters are an important part of any love story. It’s not just about receiving the love letters, but writing them is equally important – it shows that we care.

Men and women are different when it comes to love, copulation, and relationships. Men tend to seek quantity while women are more attracted to quality. Scientists say both copulationes react to oxytocin, a love hormone which the brain produces and releases during copulation and cuddling. It appears however, that women produce more of this hormone. And oxytocin, which is also known as the cuddling hormone, is associated with empathy and trust. This would probably explain why women like to be wooed and made a fuss of at the beginning of a relationship. Women seek respect and romance once attracted and will do their utmost to nurture and strengthen the bond with their partner through romantic communication.

Letter writing is perfect for romantic communication. For many women, love letters are a positive means of taking their love story to a higher level. Women feel that love letters will enhance their relationship, for them it is by far the most honest and sincere means of describing one’s feelings.

Correspondence by phone, emails, and text messages are done in a half-hearted distracted sort of way, it doesn’t require too much concentration. Sitting down to write a letter, however – the good old-fashioned way our parents and grandparents did – shows that the letter writer made a conscious effort to make the receiver feel special. It doesn’t matter how the love letter arrives – by snail mail, hand-delivered, or left in a secret place – it will still warm the heart, especially when it’s a warm declaration of love or admiration.

Love letters can be sent to lovers, husbands, parents, grandparents, and friends. They can be soppy, they can express admiration, loyalty – any of those beautiful gifts people appreciate.

However, no love story is perfect. Negative moments such as anger, frustration or disappointment do come up in relationships and need to be handled lovingly and without fighting. Written with thought and positive intentions, writing your feelings down can be an essential tool, allowing you to express those negative feelings. If you then follow on by expressing your love, it can be reassuring; it will wipe out the hurt and will allow you to move on.

And, even more positive is a response love letter from the receiver. Granted this is not always a straightforward exercise but it will refuel the love story. Most women seek this honesty, again it’s a chance to make up and to start a new.

Men and women have been writing love letters for centuries in different styles and different structures – through these letters we share their love, their triumphs, and sometimes their sadness.

Although tweeting and texting have become widespread over the years, love letters will always have a special place in women’s hearts. You can hold them, read them, and store them – they become part of a love story.

Women will always be captivated by love letters especially if they’re passionate and personal as this grand declaration from Richard Burton to Elizabeth Taylor.

“My blind eyes are desperately waiting for the sight of you. You don’t realize of course, E.B., how fascinatingly beautiful you have always been, and how strangely you have acquired an added and special and dangerous loveliness.”
