10 Amazing Destinations for Solo Travel

Few things are as scary and as rewarding as taking a trip by yourself. The world is a wide place, filled with adventures to be had and people to meet – but whoever said you have to do your exploring with other people?

Traveling alone is a truly freeing experience. Mainly because there’s only one person whose needs and desires matter on a solo trip: numero uno, a.k.a. you.

Do you want to head down to the bar at 3 a.m. just to see what interesting people you might run into? Do it! Do you want to spend all morning sitting in bed, enjoying the view from your window? DO IT.

When you travel solo the world is literally your oyster.

To be fair, it takes a certain kind of person to venture out on their own. And if solo vacationing isn’t for you, no judgement here! But maybe you would be more comfortable with the idea if you knew the perfect places a party of one can explore.

Well, we just happen to have a few in mind that any lone wolf will love. Here are 10 of our favorite places to go on a solo trip.

1. Seville, Spain

One of the most magical things about Seville is that it’s an incredibly social city. All of the action happens in the streets of Seville. People rarely host inside their homes, which means that it’s incredibly easy to make friends no matter where you go!

A simple stroll down the street could result in a fascinating new friendship, an incredible adventure, or just some next-level people watching.

2. Iceland

Yes, the entire damn country. As you probably know, Iceland is very trendy right now – and for good reason.

Besides the breathtaking sights, the people of Iceland are probably some of the kindest you’ll meet. While we don’t suggest letting your guard completely down (never do that, especially when traveling solo), you can rest assured that the Icelandic people are going to take good care of you!

3. Belgium

Solo cyclists, this one’s for you. While, naturally, anyone can visit the small but lovely country of Belgium, it’s particularly suited for bikers. Biking on the roads is much safer than you may be used to in your home country. There’s a bike stop at every corner, and bike paths are numerous.

Belgium is about the size of Maryland, and it’s easy to travel around the country on a bike, and there’s plenty of friendly people, great food, and even better beer to get you from place to place.

4. Santa Fe, New Mexico

Looking for a spiritual experience? Look no farther than Santa Fe, New Mexico. With its hues of dusty brown and red everywhere you look, an adobe desert that spans for miles, and some of the best spiritual healers in North America, this southwestern city is truly a retreat.

To read more about how Santa Fe has been a part of the spiritual zeitgeist for centuries, make sure to give this facinating New York Times article a read.

5. Bangkok, Thailand

If you have a taste for adventure, odds are you may have already explored colorful Bangkok. And if not, it should be next on your bucket list.

This Thai city has a magnetism that simply draws people in and can create some pretty crazy times. Crazy good times, we mean to say. Don’t be surprised if you wander into one bar for a drink and end up crammed into a tuk-tuk three hours later with your new best friends.

Rest assured, even if you’re traveling solo, you won’t feel alone in this party-centric city.

6. Lisbon, Portugal

From the beaches to the bars, Lisbon is a trendy city that still retains some of its natural charm.

The people are incredibly friendly – not making a few pals is basically impossible, especially considering how people love to flow from bar to bar, often stopping in the streets in between to dance a bit!

7. Yukon, Canada

If you’re traveling alone to, uh, be alone, then the Yukon is for you. Honestly, it doesn’t get more great outdoorsy than this.

With stunning views of lakes, mountains, and wildlife up-close, traveling through this gorgeous part of Canada is a hiker’s delight.

8. Nairobi, Kenya

You might not think of this Kenyan city as a metropolis of fashion and technology, but let us tell you, it is.

Traveling in Nairobi allows you to take in the stunning national parks and traditional bomas, while also experiencing a fierce culture of the country’s capital.

Those who are used to city-dwelling will love this middle ground.

9. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

One of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende, is known for its baroque Spanish architecture (it will take your breath away), thriving arts scene, and cultural festivals.

The cobblestone streets are typically alive with music, friendly conversation, and the delicious smells of tamales wafting through the air. Solo travelers will undoubtedly make some wonderful memories exploring the Gothic city and all its romantic delights.

10. Paris, France

Okay, hear us out on this one. We know Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world, but how fun would it be to break the rules and traveling this gorgeous metropolis by yourself?!

The answer is very.

With hundreds of prolific museums, historical sites, and more delicious food than you can imagine, there’s a lot to take in when you visit The City of Light. Consider that you can take your time seeing everything there is to see, moving at your pace and no one else’s.

Plus, hey, can you think of a more romantic place for a potential fling? We can’t.
