Fall Food Favorites to Enjoy All Winter Long

Because nothing is better than nice warm food when it’s cold out.

In my humble opinion, fall food is the best food. Between pumpkin spice everything, apples baked into all kinds of desserts, leftover turkey sandwiches, and all the left-over Halloween candy – I mean, what could be better? Plus, fall is the season where it’s finally cool enough to enjoy delicious meals that heat up the kitchen (like delicious crock-pot meals or oven baked meats).

And, I don’ know about you, but for me – pumpkin and apple season doesn’t end just because Christmas is coming. Pumpkin and apple deliciousness are something that should be enjoyed from late September until the end of January! I’m currently resentful as heck towards my local grocery stores for not stocking my favorite pumpkin spice cream cheese for my bagels (I mean, come on. How rude!).

Check out some of the best fall foods to enjoy well into this glorious long winter we’re beginning to prepare for:

Pumpkin pie or apple pie oatmeal

Want a delicious AND healthy seasonal breakfast? Combine the taste of your favorite seasonal pie with your morning oats. I’ve done the apple pie one in the past and it’s a wonderful treat for a lazy Saturday morning. But personally, I’m feeling partial to pumpkin this year. Tip: steel-cut oats set in the crock pot to cook overnight is a great way to have breakfast ready in the morning. Plus, if you’re doing apple pie oatmeal it takes about 4 hours for the apples to get soft and absorb the cinnamon.

Pumpkin bars

Cakey delicious pumpkin flavored goodness covered in cream cheese frosting? I think YES!!! Personally, I can only make this once a year (because I eat most of it within only a few days *wink, wink*). Move over pumpkin pie, pumpkin bar is taking over!

Cranberry and turkey sandwiches

Just because Thanksgiving is over doesn’t mean that you must stop eating turkey and cranberry sauce. A lot of people think that cranberry sauce makes a great addition to a mayo or cream cheese spread on a turkey sandwich. In my opinion, turkey pairs well with a healthy whole grain bread too so this will throw a healthy meal in between Christmas cookies this holiday season.

Slow cooker turkey chili

I’m not a fan of chili myself, but everyone else seems to be. Making chili with turkey seems like a delicious way to reduce the fat while still maintaining a spicy delicious soup that can be made in the crock pot easily. Plus, there are all kinds of “easy” crock pot recipes for this online (you’re welcome).

Roast beef

One of my favorite meals to make when it’s cold out is a nice roast cooked all afternoon in the crock pot seasoned perfectly with lots of onions and then shred it up and put it on oven toasted sandwich buns. You dip these in the dripping from the slow cooker and it makes the best damn sandwich ever! Plus, you can use the leftover beef for a beef stew with your favorite veggies for the next day (personally I’m a fan of carrots, potatoes, and even more onion).

Mountain Dew apple dumplings

You know what makes apples even more delicious? Wrapping them in crescent rolls then pouring a delicious Mountain Dew, butter and sugar concoction over the top before baking them to perfection. Seriously, you must try these. These dumplings are AMAZING topped with vanilla ice cream!

Apple Cake

While I love me some good old fashion apple pie, for me – apple cake is where it’s at. Not only is this recipe half the effort of apple pie (no need to make a crust or do that dumb braid thing on the top), but you can add your own personal delicious spin by adding pecans or a frosting.
