How To Enjoy Your Dates on a Rainy Day With These Fun Activities

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld said it best.

We spend so much time in water: swimming and playing other water sports, we’re obsessed with drinking it and making sure we get our 8 cups a day, we take long baths and showers to relax. Heck, water is 80% of our anatomical makeup! And yet, as soon as we feel a few drops fall from the sky, we all but lose it.

People are ducking to take cover under awnings, cancelling plans they had to go out, shielding themselves from the wet as if it were poison falling from the sky. Truth is, a lot of people feel that the rain stops them from enjoying the things that a warm sunshiny day can normally grant us; but don’t let the rain put a damper on your evening of fun. Instead, look at it as a way to do the things you normally wouldn’t do.

Here are a few rainy day date ideas that will turn a gloomy day into a day of fun and laughs.

Pull out that old chess board:

Remember in elementary school when you were in chess club and felt like a complete dork? Well, sapiosensuality is in now—it’s copulationy to be smart. If you know the game, impress your partner by teaching them how to play. Or perhaps you have a set that’s been lying under the bed collecting dust and you keep promising yourself you’re going to learn to play whenever you walk by a park and see those cool old men in a battle of the wits. There’s no better time than a rainy day to pop some popcorn, grab a couple glasses of wine, and learn the game of chess together. You can even make it a regular rainy day activity; you will learn to see how your partner thinks and strategizes, which will build your bond.

Go singing in the rain:

Grab your umbrella and your rain boots and just get out there, by choice! Splash around in the water. Go for a walk and have a nice chat- maybe stop for a hot chocolate to keep warm. Just make sure to dress accordingly so neither of you gets sick. Bonus: you’ll have the streets to yourself since mostly everyone else is probably sprinting to take cover indoors.

Watch a movie collection:

If you’re anything like me, you have dozens of unwatched movies on your to-watch list. You make jokes about Die Hard and say the appropriate Bond or Indiana Jones quotes, but you don’t really know them all too well. If it’s raining and you don’t want to leave the house, now’s your chance to search em up and get er done. Pick a theme: James Bond, Indiana Jones, Batman, Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, anything, and finally see what you’ve been missing out on. Literally.

Cook something together:

Find a recipe you can both agree on, one that neither of you has made before, and let the experimentation begin. Have some wine (for the food and for you) to loosen the nerves while you step out of your comfort zone, and have fun with it. Maybe to spruce it up a little, you turn it into a cooking contest. You both make the same dish but with your own variations and see who does it better. Make it romantic by dining by candlelight and maybe throw on a jazz record; the rain will provide the perfect harmonious backsplash against the windows, setting a warm and relaxing mood.

Take it back to the old school ways:

No one really talks on the phone anymore. So, if it’s raining so hard that neither you nor your date can even leave the house, never fear: bring on the cheese! Remember that episode of Arthur where Buster couldn’t leave his house so the two pals talked on the phone while watching the same program and Arthur explained everything that was going on? Add your own flavor to it.

Maybe the two of you cook something together over the phone, discussing which ingredients will go best with the dish- the only thing is that you’re making it from your respective homes. Maybe you watch the same program at the exact same time and provide the appropriate commentary and yelling at the screen (you won’t even notice you aren’t physically together). Maybe you have a board game in common and one player tells the other what moves they’re making. This is a good way to build trust (as the other can’t actually see what you’re doing).

Even if it doesn’t go smoothly, the two of you can laugh about how ridiculous and cheesy it is the next time you actually see each other in person.

Remember, just because the heavens are crying doesn’t mean that you have to. There are many ways to enjoy the rainy weather. Choose to have fun with it and try these rainy day date ideas that’ll have you saying, "Rain, rain, come again!"
