As part of her Pretend Cooking Show hosting duties, on her social media, the actress has even shared some alternatives to her own favorite snack food weakness, blue corn tortilla chips.
At the end of January, Jennifer Garner posted a kale chip recipe that she had developed as a replacement for her nemesis, the tortilla chip. Not only did she make it clear that she loves these healthy alternatives, but she really thinks kids will love them too.
In a series of pictures which went along with her recipe, Garner can be seen baking up her kale chips and enjoying the outcome. In fact, one picture even shows the leftover green of the kale in her teeth as she smiles for the camera.
For fans of Jennifer Garner looking to replicate her recipe, all it takes is fresh kale, with the actress recommending the Dinosaur leaves for best results. Of course, you have to clean the leaves and dry them in order to get the kale just right.
For large leaves, she recommends cutting out the large rib of the kale before coating the leaves with olive oil and salt. If you are looking for an added layer of flavor, Garner recommended adding parmesan cheese before baking the kale in an oven that has been preheated to 200 degrees.
While it typically takes about 25 minutes to get the healthy kale chips to the perfect level of crispness, the actress recommends checking the oven at the 15-minute mark. After letting them cool, you get a crisp and delicious healthy alternative to the salty blue corn tortilla chip.
Although a fresh kale chip is a great option for people looking to try something healthy and new, this was not the only option that Jennifer Garner offered her followers. In fact, in a brand new Instagram post, Garner shared another one of her hacks for when she is craving the crunchiness of the tortilla chips. This time around, her option is more on the sweet side, as she shares her recipe for a beet chip with her followers.
This time she calls the beet chips, “naturally sweet and completely addicting.” Of course, if you check out the hashtags that went along with her recipe, it is clear that her love of the blue corn tortilla chip is pretty intense, even if these chips do come in as a close alternative to replace the salty goodness.
Just like her kale chip recipe, the Instagram post for the beet chips includes images of Jennifer Garner actually making these chips from start to delicious finish. Whether it is her cleaning the beets or using the mandolin to make thin beet wafers, it is clear that this is a recipe that the actress has tried and perhaps even perfected.
First up, it is extremely important to wash your beets well and this time around, the oven needs to be preheated to 250 degrees. After washing the beets, you cut off their tops and then thinly slice them (as the images show, Jennifer Garner used a mandolin for this, and she reminds people to be careful if you choose to use this particular tool).
Once your beets have been sliced, you again break out the olive oil and lightly coat them, before laying them out on a baking sheet and sprinkling them with salt. While the kale chips only needed about 25 minutes in the oven, the beet chips require one hour of baking time. After an hour, they are ready for consumption, although they will certainly be hot right out of the oven.
While these are just two of her healthy snack options, Jennifer Garner has been sharing her love of cooking and healthy living for quite some time now and it is likely that she will continue to do so. With multiple Instagram posts dedicated to her healthy eating options, fans of the actress can follow her on social media to see what else she has up her baking sleeves.
