Ortzi: July 30-august 5

Ortzi may be located in Times Square, but it’s more than worth checking out. The Latin American venue is tucked away from on a quiet street away from the large crowds (phew) and located on the ground floor of the LUMA Hotel. Oh yeah, and it has a few new dishes to try.

The interior is super sleek, and the staff is incredibly friendly. You’re already off to a good start when you enter. Plus, there’s happy hour every day. Just saying.

But to make this spot even better, the food is stellar. It has global influences, mainly from Spain, and offers excellent tapas and entrees to share, such as the brand new marinated piquillo peppers made with high-quality Don Bocarte anchovies.

Another savory dish that recently debuted is the sautéed wild mushrooms made with egg yolk and served with garlic chips that offer the perfect amount of crunch.

The Flores de Calabaza (or squash blossom) is also new to the menu. Made with capers and crab, this is a salty tapa dish is ideal for the seafood lovers.

And speaking of seafood, while you’re here, it’s criminal not to try the paella. Sure, it’s not new, but this baby is packed with prawns, calamari, and mussels that are served with rice and ideal for sharing. And the restaurant offers paella specials, including one made with an octopus that is grilled to perfection. With plates like these, you’ll be running the Times Square. Or at least won’t hate that you’re there.
