I am not a credulous person, but when my husband and I visited Mount Faber Park last year, the vendors at the park entrance made us purchase a wishing bell, or what they called a bell of happiness. It is believed that when you ring this bell together as a couple, you’re destined for everlasting joy, harmony, and peace. And then to further bind your wish, you are supposed to write down that wish and stick it on the fence.

This might look bizarre at first, but it is actually an exciting activity to try. Did my wish come true? Honestly, yes. However, I owe this to my hard work, but maybe the bell of happiness added a little mojo.

Yueh Hai Ching

It is a Chinese temple located in Raffles place in Singapore. The temple has historical ornaments and ceramic figurines, which outline the Chinese classics. It dates back to 1826 which makes this temple Singapore’s oldest Teochew temple. The Teochew Chinese immigrants built this temple to show gratitude to Mazu, the sea goddess for her journey mercies.

Today, the temple is commonly known as the “love temple.” Its devotees have changed from sailors to people seeking for love. Singles who have no luck with love are encouraged to visit this temple and receive Yue Lao’s blessings. All you need is a red string which you can always get in the temple. Then say your silent love prayer and hung this string on Yue Lao’s neck.

To show gratitude, love-seekers offer moon cakes and a 12 dollar red packet to the deity. However, these activities are not only limited to singles. You can also hang the red string as a couple and pray for unity in your relationship.
