Cuddling and spooning are an act of intimacy that are often quite simple and comforting. But, there are times when we want to make that intimate act even more so, and thanks to some of these tips you can make that happen.
Think about spending a lazy day with your partner, cuddled together, watching movies, and generally just enjoying time together. And if you decide to spoon, you can actually take your cuddle session up a notch, because this intimacy is not just good for your overall well-being, but it is a great way to really connect with your partner.
If you are wondering why cuddling is so good for you, just think that it can actually lessen your stress, while also helping you get closer to your partner (not just physically). So here is how you can kick things up a bit and make your next cuddle session even more intimate than it already is.
Avoid Positions That Lead to Cramping
Getting a cramp or being in a position that leads to pain and stiffness is the quickest way to ruin a perfect cuddling session. This is especially true if you lay your head down in a way that leads to soreness right away. We recommend not using your partner’s arm to rest your head. After a while you will find that your neck will hurt from being in a less than perfect position, while your partner’s arm with eventually get tired (which isn’t comfortable for them either). Use a pillow and instead of laying your head on your partner, drape an arm or a leg over a part of their body.
Kiss While You Cuddle
Nothing says extra intimacy quite like adding some kisses to your cuddle session. As both of these acts are truly intimate, combining them makes for a perfect experience. And no, we don’t mean going all in with the tongue or turning this into a massive make out session. Gentle pecks, soft kisses, and lightly passionate kisses are the way to make your next cuddle session extra intimate. After awhile, you will notice that things will heat up and passions will flair.
Be Careful Not to Get Crushed
Getting smushed is not the best way to enjoy an intimate cuddle session. In order to do this you might change-up your position (which is something we talk about next) or even just fix things so that even as you cuddle you are not entirely on top of each other. A little bit of breathing room is better than getting crushed and being unable to get comfortable for a night of movie watching.
Change Up Your Cuddling Position
There are plenty of options when it comes to cuddling, but one of our favorites is the classic spoon, where one partner lays behind the other and holds the partner in front of them. This is a position that allows your bodies to line up and more of your body connects to your partner. But if you want to spice up the spoon position, there are ways to do that too.
You can spoon face to face, which might seem weird, but if you are simply talking with each other this is a great way to maintain intimacy. If you are in the classic spooning position, you could intertwine your legs. Interlocking your legs will add another level to this cuddle session. And if you are switching things up and moving away from the spoon, what about laying with your head in your partners lap, while holding hands and even having your forearms next to each other in a way allows for an intimate embrace.
Running Fingers/Nails on Bare Skin
Much like playing with one’s hair is an act of comfort, running your fingers/nails up and down bare skin can increase intimacy during a cuddle session. It makes it clear to your partner that you have a hard time keeping your hands off of them, while also making the nerve endings sing. If done right (lightly with just the barest hint of nail touching skin), it can be shiver inducing in a good way. (This is one of my favorite things and always makes cuddling even better.)
Match Your Breathing
If you match your breathing with your partner while you cuddle, you will feel more connected. There is a bond that grows from having synchronized breathing and it is something that adds an extra layer of intimacy to being close to the one you love. And honestly, you will find that as you cuddle, your body will naturally try to match your partner’s breathing.
Cuddling is an act of intimacy that can be made even more intimate by mixing things up. This is your chance to spend time with your partner without being on the move or really aiming for copulation.
