We’ve all had those days that everything seems to go wrong. You woke up early to stop for coffee on the way to work, only to leave it on top your car as drove away. Your boss yelled at you for something stupid.
You’re tired and the last thing you want to do is leave your house for date night.
One of the best things to do in that case is put on your pajamas as soon as possible, bring all the blankets you own to your couch, and set up a little oasis.
Going out for date night doesn’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes the best nights happen at home laid up with your babe.
I suggest picking a line up of movies for the night (even if you fall asleep within the first one). It makes it fun to have movie marathon planned out.
Of course, no movie night would be complete without the addition of snacks. Snacks are key for any situation really (let’s be real) but most definitely key for movie nights.
Here are some very tasty suggestions you might want to try:
1. Homemade Chex Mix
Making your own Chex mix can be really easy, and extremely delicious. Not only is it is that, but it also allows you to customize it just the way you want to, as long as you incorporate the Chex!
So if you’re in a chocolate mood, perhaps you add chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, pretzels, and peanuts. The sweet and salty combination is to die for.
If you’re in a more savory mood, I would suggest adding oyster crackers, cheese, almonds, and seasoning. You get that satisfying crunch with every bite.
2. Pretzel Bites
Just like at the movies, pretzel bites are a scrumptious movie time snack. The mixture of soft pretzel dough and salt is enough to make your mouth water. Plus, you can’t forget to have sauces such as cheese and honey mustard to go along with it.
What’s great about the pretzel bites as opposed to a full-on pretzel is your ability to eat it in one bite. If you want to be cute, you can even feed a couple to your partner. Just make sure not to make too much of a mess.
If you’re feeling extra tired, you don’t have to worry about making these from scratch, simply buy prepared ones and throw them in the oven. Easy.
3. Nacho Bar
If you’re one who always goes for the nachos at the theater (like me) then you will completely love this idea. Now you don’t have to settle for simply chips and cheese, although that combo is great, you can now boost it and make it even better. For your nacho bar, you can set out anything your little heart desires.
I suggest assembling some green onion, olives, cheese, black beans, salsa and sour cream in little bowls, that way each bite can be customized to your liking.
4. Chili and Lime Popcorn
Of course, nothing says a movie quite like popcorn. Although the classic buttered popcorn is always yummy, you want to consider changing it up a little to add some flare to it.
I suggest adding a couple tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 tsp of chili powder and the juice and zest of one lime to freshly popped popcorn. Then adding salt to taste. It’s not only the healthier option compared to butter, but it’s also really tasty, light and refreshing.
5. Candy Tray
For all you readers with a big sweet tooth, this option is probably for you. I’m not sure about you, but when I eat candy while watching a movie, I like to have different options. Sometimes during the movie, I crave something chocolatey, sometimes sweet and even sometimes sour.
With having a tray with multiple compartments filled with different candies, you get quite an array of choices, so you never have to feel like you’re missing out on another candy.
Going out on the town for dates is extremely fun. However, sometimes you just want to stay in, throw on the comfiest sweats you own, and munch on yummy food with your bae. Both are great options, and you should do whatever it is that you’re feeling that night. Perhaps you’ll even incorporate some of my snack ideas to help make your night the best it can be.
