Convection microwave ovens combine the functionality of a convection oven and a regular microwave oven. While it can cook food quickly like a standard microwave, the food usually comes out browned or crispy like in a typical convection oven.

Convection microwave ovens work by circulating hot air uniformly using a high velocity forced air fan. These kitchen appliances are ideal if you don’t have much space in your kitchen. They are also ideal for RVs, holiday homes, or as an addition for full kitchens.

If you are toying with the idea of getting a conventional microwave oven, it pays to learn about the pros and cons. Here are some key pros and cons to help you compare microwaves.

Advantages

Multifunctional

The most significant benefit of a conventional microwave oven is that it offers you the convenience of baking, grilling, and standard microwave functionality. This makes the appliance convenient for use, effective and fast, and it serves excellently when you want to cook at high temperatures.

Saves Time and Space

The second most important benefit of the convection microwave oven is that you will save a lot of time due to the fact that it can perform multiple functions.

Additionally, you can save a lot of space in your kitchen if your kitchen is small. The appliance is smaller than a conventional oven and it does not take up much space in the kitchen. It can also be built-in to your kitchen’s cabinets for even more space saving.

Affordability

Convection microwave ovens are more affordable compared to standard ovens. Furthermore, they are not costly to run and they consume little electricity because they are designed to be highly energy efficient.

Disadvantages

As with all equipment or appliances, there is a good side and bad side since nothing is totally perfect in this world.

Small Capacity Inside

One of the most significant disadvantages with convection microwave ovens is that they are not as large inside when compared to the standard ovens. This poses a problem especially if love baking cakes because baking cakes require a lot of space.

Price

Although convection microwave ovens come at an affordable price compared to standard ovens, they cost significantly more than standard microwaves. However, this downside is offset by the fact that convection microwave ovens can perform several functions than the standard microwave which only allow you to reheat or defrost.

Cannot Cook Some Foods as well as a Conventional Oven

The other notable disadvantage with convection microwave ovens is that they don’t perform as well as conventional ovens when it comes to baking some items. For instance, when baking scones, you will realize that the ones baked using a conventional oven have a better texture than the ones baked using a convection microwave oven.

In summary, convection microwave ovens have certain benefits and downsides compared to standard microwaves and conventional ovens. Overall, it is a worthy appliance to have in your kitchen, but you have to consider factors such as the available space in your kitchen, the intended purpose of use, the cost, and your preference for certain food items.
