Staying home together doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. While couples that live together typically stop going out on dates as much, it’s still important to keep the romance alive. You can still have dates at home; you just have to use some creativity to make it happen. Here are some fun date ideas that you can do in the comfort of your own home.
1. Cook Together
Grab your measuring scale and get in the kitchen. Cooking together is a great way to spend quality time while doing something that one person normally does at a time. When you cook together, you can discuss your day or drink some wine and pretend that you’re out on a date. When it comes time to do the eating, make sure that you set the table like your favorite fancy restaurant so that you can pretend you’re on an expensive date.
2. Watch Cooking and Baking Shows
Watching television together may seem like an activity that you two do every single night. Maybe neither of you is great at cooking, but you’d still like to pretend that your food was prepared in front of you by a chef. Cooking shows are a great way to experience going to a restaurant without actually having to leave the house. Whether you’ve had your food delivered or threw a pizza into an oven, there’s no shame in a casual date night that involves watching television.
3. Go on a Virtual Vacation
Believe it or not, you can still take a vacation from home. With a virtual vacation, you and your partner can get away from it all and explore the streets of a different city or country from the comfort of your couch. If you’ve ever wanted to travel but don’t have the funds or the ability to leave town, you two can cuddle up together and learn about the most interesting places in the world. Learn about other cultures by experiencing virtual tours of popular museums and discussing your thoughts with one another.
If going on a virtual vacation together gets you in the mood to go on a real trip, you can have fun by planning your next couple’s vacation. Together, the two of you can discuss where you’d like to go and the places you’ll want to see.
4. Star Gaze
With an astronomy app, the two of you can stargaze as soon as the sun goes down and learn about the different constellations in the sky. Take turns guessing what you think each cluster of stars looks like and then look it up on the app to see who was closer to the right answer. If you live in a city, it may be difficult to see the stars. However, you can go to a place where there are no city lights and lay in the grass together while looking up at the sky.
5. Focus on Each Other
If your average nights involve watching television together and you’re looking to do something different, you can turn off the television and simply talk. Learn about each other’s likes and dislikes and get to know each other even better. While you guys may be living together, there’s still a lot you can learn about the other person. Make sure that you have your favorite date snacks nearby so that you can focus on the other person without worrying about getting hungry.
You can also focus on one another by taking turns giving each other massages, pampering one another, and making sure that they’re happy.
If, after reading this, you simply can’t decide what idea sounds best, have your significant other put five pieces of paper with ideas written on them into a hat and do the same. Mix up the scraps of paper and choose one or two activities at random. Doing something spontaneous that you didn’t plan for can make date night truly fun.
